whispers hey you can’t use the same critical framework on works by individual lgbt creators that you use for works by corporations looking for profit from lgbt stories written by straight people because the context and consumption of that content exist in completely separate spheres thannnkssssss

you can’t deride a depressed lesbian’s work for having the sad lesbian trope in it

you can’t tell a trans woman writing about being trans that she’s just writing the stereotypical trans narrative

those are their stories to tell and they’re not stereotypes they’re real lives and reducing them to the boxes het media puts us in is reproducing their oppression

And the God-tier is when people criticise individual LGBTQ people for being “stereotypical” in the way they live their lives X___x

Symptoms

  • Nightmares
  • Guilt
  • Poor Judgment
  • Intrusive Memories
  • Poor Memory
  • Survivors Guilt
  • Flashbacks
  • Startle Reflex
  • Hypervigilance
  • Irritability
  • Anger and Rage
  • Self Destructive
  • Lack of Feelings
  • Insomnia
  • Poor Concentration
  • Hopelessness
  • Poor Self Esteem
  • Negative Self Image
  • Apathy
  • Mistrust
  • Isolation
  • Avoidance
  • Excessive Blame
  • Dissociation

If Someone You Know Has PTSD

DO:

  • Acknowledge the reality of their struggle
  • Offer to go with them to see a counselor
  • Listen to them
  • Encourage and support them
  • Try to imagine a day and night in their shoes
  • Accept you will never fully understand what they went through and are going through
  • Respect their need for space
  • Ask how you can help and support them….then do that

DON’T:

  • Call them crazy or weird
  • Say it is all in their head or they’re making a big deal out of nothing
  • Assume you know what they’re going through
  • Judge, pity, or try to fix them
  • Tell them to suck it up, move on, or just get over it
